Win XP's Replacement?

This from Gizmodo
It’s official — after months of going by the codename “Longhorn,” the next-generation Windows operating system has been dubbed “Windows Vista.” It sounds like a spa resort in the mountains, but the name was apparently inspired to “bring clarity to your world.” IT professionals and developers will be able to get their hands on the first beta of the new OS from August 3rd, and Microsoft hopes to introduce a commercial version next year (though we’re not holding our breath considering how long the development took)

It should be fun to watch and see how this goes.

The U.K. Cracks Down!

This breaking story has all of the excitement of an action movie.
A man has been shot dead by armed officers at Stockwell Tube station, as police hunt four would-be bombers.

I somehow get the feeling that Britain means business now!

Good Bye Michael...

Thursday, July 21, 2005
That's right by a vote of 9 to 1 Michael, the obnoxious artist originally from Europe found himself headed for the door after Tuesday nights episode of Big Brother6. I am personally sad to see him go. In the last episode Michael made for some great TV by egging on the beefed up, pinheaded, firefighter Eric. We all thought we were watching the WWE before we even knew it. Don't you know that the producers were giving themselves high fives when all this was going down. Everyone loves a good fight, and It's just too bad that Michael won't be in the house to stir up the pot.

Tonight's episode did focus on the relationship between Michael and (Little Miss Piggy) Janelle. I guess she is good looking, but I can't get past that snout. Give me a break with the cheesy have you seen spiderman line. In my opinion Big Brother showed way too much kissing between these two. At some point I was hoping that they would realize that we get the point, they like each other. No we had to watch them swap spit over and over again.

Kaysar wins the Head of Household competiton, so this week should be interesting. I hope he goes after Eric. So far my favorite character in the house is Howie. Is this guy for real, he is cracking me up.

24 hours and counting...

I can't wait to get on the road to Colorado tomorrow afternoon. We are going to leave around three tomorrow and will be back on next Thursday. I love Colorado in the summer. It sure beats the heck out of this 100 degree Oklahoma weather.

I have a lot to do before I leave. Take a test, mow the lawn, watch Big Brother, finish packing, sleep, work, etc.

So now I am counting the seconds.

Smooth... A $6 Million Dollar Commercial!

Wednesday, July 20, 2005
This might be the coolest thing I have ever seen. Check out the Video at Steel City's Finest!
This Advertisement for the new Honda Accord was shot in real time with no CGI involved in the sequence. It required 606 takes and cost $6 million to shoot.

I am sure that this Ad took a lot of time and money, and I can see why. I can't believe that there were no special effects involved. Here's a big hat tip to Honda. This is the best commercial I have ever seen!

Big 12 Media Pre-Season Team Announced

Adrian Peterson named Preseason Offensive Player of the Year! (Duh)

Peterson was the runner-up in last years Heisman trophy balloting as well as the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer and Freshman of the Year. The 6-2, 210, sophomore running back was a 2004 All-Big 12 first team member while finishing second in the league in rushing with 148.1 yards per game. His 15 touchdowns for the Sooners ranked third in the conference.

Other Sooners who made the team...
Davin Joseph, Oklahoma (OL, 6-4, 312, Sr/3L, Hallandale, Fla.)
Larry Birdine, Oklahoma (DL, 6-5, 251, Jr/2L, Lawton, Okla.)
Dusty Dvoracek, Oklahoma (DL, 6-3, 294, Sr/3L, Lake Dallas, Texas)
Rufus Alexander, Oklahoma (LB, 6-1, 225, Jr/1L, Baton Rouge, La.)

I am starting to get the feeling that our season will hinge on quarterback play.

In Sports...

This weeks PGA tour stop is the U.S. Bank Championship in Milwaukee (Jul 21 - 24). Of course, this being the week after the Open Championship there won't be very many notable playing. I will be out of town so probably won't be paying much attention.

Can you feel it? It is right around the corner now. That’s right College Football!

Today Sooners coach Bob Stoops and a host of players will be speaking at Big 12 media day. I will try to bring an update on any good news or bad news coming from the Sooner camp. I can't believe we are this close to the beginning of the season. I think I may be getting bedlam tickets, and am keeping my fingers crossed that they will come through. There is nothing in the world like bedlam football in Norman.

I am interested to know what teams the readers of this blog will be rooting for this year when it comes to college football, and pro football. Leave a comment with some trash talkin if you like.

Go Sooners! and Colts!

Another 98 baby!

I'm starting to think that 98 may be the default grade for this teacher, but hey an A is an A. Just got my last rough draft back and have to turn in the final this week. I also have to take the final test and then it will be all over for awhile. Sweet Chicken!

Maddies new words and phrases are:

I leave on Friday for a week in Colorado, I won't have web access so I won't be posting. I have soo much to do before I leave. I hope I can get it all done. Wife: Don't be mad at me, but would you come into the bathroom an listen to this I think something is wrong.
Me: But I just got to sleep!
Wife: I know, please?

Me: Is the water on outside?
Wife: I don't know. Will you stand by the door while I go outside and check?
Me: Huhhh!
(Wife walks toward the door, and I proceed to relieve myself... Sound stops... I finish up and the wife walks back in from outside )
Wife: Our water bill is going to be so high!
Me: Did you just wake me up to tell me that you are a goofball?
(My wife laughs)
(I think to myself "not so funny" and try to go back to sleep)

Great American Entrepreneurialism or what?

This story comes from the Indiatimes.

Programmers are outsourcing their software modules to cheap and efficient labor in India. This way they get the best of both worlds- more money and more time. They earn doubly - one from the outsourced job, other from the new job they undertake.

This is a great Idea, if only I had went into the Information Technology field. Makes you think that pretty soon everything will be outsourced in one way or another. The article has some interesting thoughts on the jobs that outsourcing will create in America.

Tiger wins and I need a nap!

Sunday, July 17, 2005
Busy weekend.

My Mother-in-law bought a swingset for Maddie on Friday so I started my weekend off by putting it together on Friday night that took me about four and a half hours. I hate it when they try to put three different languages on every page of the instructions instead of having three different sets.

My wife woke me up at five on Saturday morning to help her get her garage sale set up. She did pretty good and is excited that she has some Wal-Mart money now.

From that point on the focus has been on trying to get caught up on my homework before I leave town next Friday. I finally finished my paper on "Death of a Salesman", so I am on the homestreatch now. Just one more test.

Maddies taking her nap so I think we are going to take one too.

BTW- Can you say Tiger Woods rocks! I am amazed at what that man can do with a club! That's (count them) two career grand slams.

Consumer Alert!

Friday, July 15, 2005
Wal-Mart has officially decided that they should control every aspect of your life... including who you date and eventually marry. Then you and your spouse will spend the rest of your wedded life going back to the place you met and giving them all of your money.
July 15, 2005 - From lingerie to lawn mowers, Wal-Mart, the world's largest retailer prides itself on offering its customers truly one-stop shopping. Now, customers at a Roanoke, Va., Wal-Mart can peruse the aisles for something extra: a date. ABC News story.

One more step towards the retinal scans at the door, and RFID chips Wal-Mart will place just under our skin!

E-mail of the Week

Got a funny email from my Moms yesterday that I thought I would share:

  1. If you are choking on an ice cube, don't panic! Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto! The blockage will be almost instantly removed.
  2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away.
  3. Avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat by simply using the shower.
  4. For high blood pressure sufferers - just cut yourself and bleed for a few minutes. This will reduce the pressure in your veins.
  5. A mouse trap, placed on top of your alarm clock, will prevent you from rolling over and going back to sleep after you hit the snooze button.
  6. If you have a bad cough, take a large dose of laxatives, then you will be afraid to cough.
  7. Have a bad toothache? Smash your thumb with a hammer and you will forget about the toothache.
  8. Sometimes, we just need to remember what the rules of life really are: You only need two tools: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40.If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

I might need to try number 5 if I keep sleeping in too long!!

Get em' Tiger!

Thursday, July 14, 2005
I woke up to good news this morning. Tiger Woods is in the lead after the first round of the British Open. He shot a 6 under 66. Now I have to figure out how to convince the Mrs. that I need to go strait to bed so I can get up at 3:00 in the morning to watch some live coverage from St. Andrews. Yeah right! It should be a great weekend for Golf.

Some crazy stuff going on at the "Salt mine" this week maybe I will be able to share later.

Big Garage Sale this weekend cause we need some cash... I'm thinking of selling my old converse 300 sneakers. (ha!)

Maddie's new favorite words are "I go pee pee in potty". Did I mention the fact that she refuses to wear her diaper half of the time now. I am going to have to invest in some kind of carpet cleaning product.

This school and that school...

Sunday, July 10, 2005

I spent all day today writing a paper on the poem "Digging" by Seamus Heaney, and answering discussion questions for my Lit class. Tomorrow and Tuesday I am in all day classes for work, on a program called Crystal Reports. I have used the program a little, and I like it so the class has the potential to be kind of interesting. At the least I don't have to do any "real" work for two days.

Maddie went pee pee in the potty five times this weekend. We throw a party every time so I am exhausted from all the heavy partying going on around here. She is also starting to talk better, she is putting words together now like "come on" and of course "I pee pee in potty". This being a Dad thing rocks!

Big news this weekend... I am going to get to go to Colorado this summer with a group of boys from the church I used to work at. I will be doing all their devotions and I am taking my little brother Dalton. It promises to be lots of fun. I’ll be posting more on that later.

Homespun Blogger Symposium XXVIII

Saturday, July 09, 2005
MajorDad1984 asked the question on the Homespun Blogger Symposium XXVIII:
_______________________________________________________
This week saw terrorism raise it's ugly head in London killing more than 50 people, wounding over 700.

Based on this recent attack... do you feel that we're winning, losing, or holding our own in fighting the Global War on Terrorism(GWOT)? (Hint: The answer may be none of the above.)
_______________________________________________________

I understand that there are certain members of the media and the left who would want us to look at the current situation and think that we could be losing the war. I feel the keyword that is sometimes missed is WAR. If you think back at all other wars in history, you realize that being at war will mean loss of life and the loss of certain battles. I think that this incident as horrible as it was, is a case where we lost this certain battle. The war is not over and I would say we are definitely not losing. The fact that there haven't been any further attacks on U.S. soil will attest to this. War never ends overnight and this war which is unlike any ever fought may never be won or lost. The moment we try to claim victory and pull back or let our guard down, will be the moment that Americans should be concerned. So we should be optimistic and full of resolve as we continue to fight the Global War on Terrorism.

Thanks go out to MajorDad1984 for the question.

Why we do what we do?

So here's the deal, as a rule I don't talk politics, religion, war, etc. etc. other than the occasional passing comment. I enjoy reading about these things, but for some reason I don't always feel like voicing my opinion. So I stick to what’s going on in my life and around me, sports, fishing, hunting, my girls, etc.

Yesterday Nickie Goomba gave us this post about parental love. This was very thought provoking to me and produced some great comments as most of Nickie's posts always do.

So I say all that to say this, sure this blogging thing is fun and light hearted. But at times like these with what happened in London yesterday and with the radical Muslim movement, we should reflect. Thanks go out to Nickie for making us think.

Turtles, Frogs, and Eggs

I forgot to tell everyone about the Turtle Races. Maddies Turtle didn't do squat, but she had fun watching him go the wrong way. However, Maddies frog won first place (out of two) in the frog race. That little stinking frog wasn't no bigger than a quarter. We almost had a tragedy when he fell into a crack on the tennis court. I will post some pictures of all this later today.

Oh yeah, they also had an egg toss competition, and my wife got egg all over my shorts on the second toss. They called for the Mother-Son toss, and I talked my mother-in-law into getting out there with me. It came down to us and another group, but little did my MIL know that our egg had cracked on the toss before. I put it nice and high, and she got plastered. We still got second place. I love my mother-in-law, but it is way too much fun to give her a hard time.

Intro to Lit sucks as we all know, but I got a 98 on my Fiction paper. My teach made a note on the paper that she had looked online to see if I had stole it somewhere. Why doubt me? She then said she meant it as a compliment... Hmm I think you cheated and that's a compliment... What do I care I got a 98! Its a good thing to because I made a 52 on the fiction test. Lucky for me there was a 25 point curve so 77 is not too bad. This summer class moves fast.

Tiger Woods almost magic this weekend at the Cialis Western Open. Jim Furyk was just to steady on the last day, but it sure was fun to watch. This week is the John Deere Classic. Next week is the British open... Can't wait.

We had a great weekend at the in-laws. Maddie loved the fireworks... She clapped her hand everytime one went off. Went fishing twice and caught one each time, so not real successfull but still fun.
